Through diligence, pride in quality workmanship and excellent
service, the legacy of Silas Evans has lasted 100 years as the now
Evans Mechanical, Inc. The roots of this company can be found in
the classic American dream and for five generations, the name
"Evans" has been synonymous with the highest quality workmanship
in plumbing and heating services.
Silas Evans along with his wife Coral, started the company S.J.
Evans Heating and Ventilation, in Scranton Pennsylvania in 1917.
Six years later with his wife and baby daughter Ruth in tow, Silas
came to Broome County determined, along with his wife, to build
their own plumbing and heating enterprise. Toting his tools around
in a wheelbarrow while Coral was keeping the books, Si soon
became a familiar figure on the streets of Endicott New York. The
legacy has been handed down through 5 generations. From Silas and
Coral, to their daughter Ruth and her husband Kenneth. The company
Evans Plumbing and Heating was incorporated in 1960 and then
passed on to Kenneth and Ruth's two sons, Karl and K. David
Spencer as the 3rd generation. Karl and K. David brought in
their children as the 4th generation. In 1997 the company was divided
into the residential business, remaining Evans plumbing and heating,
run by K. David's sons Jim and Tom Spencer. Karl's daughter
(Silas' great-granddaughter) Susan, and her husband J.B. took the
commercial industrial business and started a separate company,
Evans Mechanical Inc. serving Broome county and surrounding areas within a 2 hour radius of the office, located at 314 Maple Street, Endicott. The woman owned business is run by Susan and J.B. Barnes along with two of their children Josh Barnes and Jessyca Barnes/Kublo (Evans' fifth generation).
